On Friday, I joined local residents, Councillors and activists to oppose to planned closure of Norris Green job centre, who provide a vital service to many in my constituency.
The proposed closure of the centre is absurd and unnecessary but will have an impact that will adversely affect so many of my constituents in Norris Green, Croxteth and beyond.
The plan for current users to go to other centres spread around the city is totally unacceptable as is the decision to close this centre without any consultation whatsoever. Walton MP, Steve Rotheram and I have already written to the Secretary of State for Department of Work and Pensions demanding a change of plan.
The Tory government are looking to close the centre without first talking with local residents, Councillors or MPs. Local representatives are meeting the DWP Regional Manager this Friday and he needs to get the message that we won't let this centre go.
I hope that this series of protests outside the centre helps to show the strength of feeling against this ridiculous decision and encourages DWP to think again.
