Stephen has this week written to Liam Robinson, Chair of Merseytravel, with Walton MP Steve Rotheram calling for the return of the old route on the 61 bus.
Over a thousand local residents have signed a petition calling for a return to the old route, which stops in the middle of Broadway shops instead of Lorenzo Drive, more than half a mile away.
Stephen Twigg said: “I am a regular bus user, including the 61, and I am not surprised at the strength of feelings from local people on this issue. The 61 has stopped in the middle of Broadway for decades.
"I urge Arriva to return to the previous well known route, this move risks a real negative effect on local businesses.”
Steve Rotheram said: “After campaigning in the area recently, local ward councillors have expressed concerns that the re-route of the 61 bus is affecting local residents who want to shop in Broadway but rely on public transport to do so.
“I have also spoke with a number of business owners who say it is having a detrimental impact on trade as there are fewer visitors in the area.
"The route directly affects constituents in both Walton and West Derby which is why I and my colleague Stephen Twigg have written to Merseytravel to try and get the issue addressed.”
