Armed Forces day I was delighted and honoured to be invited by The Lord Mayor of Liverpool Cllr Hazel Williams to Armed Forced celebration day at the Anglican Cathedral. It is right that we recognise our magnificent armed forces many of which are of course from Liverpool.... Lowlands Summer fate I went along to the annual summer garden fete at Lowlands in West Derby on Saturday 26th June. I was joined by West Derby Labour Councillor Pam Thomas. It was a glorious sunny day and a lot of fun. Lowlands is a tremendous asset to West Derby of which we should be rightly proud. www.lowlands.org.uk... Meeting with the chief constable I was pleased to secure an early meeting with Jon Murphy the new chief constable of Merseyside police. We discussed some of the everyday issues that affect people in the constituency such as anti social behaviour. I am looking forward to working closely with Jon and regularly raising constituents important concerns with him.... Visit to Monksdown School I enjoyed a fantastic visit to Monksdown School in Norris Green on Friday June 25th.The School was graded outstanding by OFSTAED at their last inspection, a tremendous achievement. I was very Impressed with Stephanie Gough and her dedicated staff and look forward to returning to Monksdown later in the summer for their production of "Scouse Pacific"... Ellergreen Fun Day On Saturday 20th June I opened the Ellergreen Fun Day organised by the wonderful Children's Centre and Nursery School at Ellergreen. The vision for Sure Start was to bring together nursery, childcare, health and community facilities in one place. Ellergreen is a great example of this being implemented.... Walkabout in West Derby Village with Cllr Pam Thomas Pam Thomas is the first ever Labour councillor in West Derby ward. She and I are detemined to see improvements in West Derby Village working with local residents and businesses. On June 18th we were joined by Cllr Steve Munby and the Rector of St Mary's, Mark Coleman, for a walkabout. Stephen the Biography

I was born in 1966 in Enfield where I attended the local comprehensive school, Southgate. I went on to study Politics & Economics at Oxford University. In 1997 I returned to Enfield Southgate to become its first ever Labour MP, defeating the then Defence Secretary Michael Portillo in what was later voted the "3rd greatest television moment ever"!
