  • Opening of new Housing 21 Services at Brookside House
I was delighted and honoured to be asked to officially open the tremendous facilities that are now available through Housing 21 at the Brookside House Sheltered accommodation scheme in Knotty Ash. The Facilities and accommodation are truly superb. I was impressed by the obvious dedication of the staff that work at the scheme and enjoyed speaking to many of the residents. I hope to be a regular visitor....
  • Holly Lodge
I met with the Head and Chair of Governors at Holly Lodge on Friday to discuss the impact of the terrible news of the cancellation of the Building schools for the future programme. Holly Lodge is a fantastic school with tremendous Leadership but also in desperate need of some rebuilt and refurbishment. It is exactly the sort of school that BSF was designed to assist most. I will be working very closely with the school to help secure the funding it needs to continue to be an outstanding asset to girls in our constituency. I will be visiting all our...
  • Croxteth Park Residents Association
I was delighted to attend the re-launched Croxteth Park residents association last Thursday evening. Residents raised a number of important issues with me including concerns regarding the Country Park’s Council services, the future of the old Stand farm/Fir tree Public House and the best way to progress the spending of the dowry money that the estate is entitled to. I look forward to having a close relationship with the group over the coming years. http://www.cp-residents-association.co.uk/...
  • Question to Michael Gove re Building schools for the Future
I have secured a promise from Education Secretary Michael Gove that he (or one of his ministers) will visit Liverpool in the near future to discuss last week’s BSF announcement and its devastating impact on schools in West Derby and City wide. You can read the full exchange from the Commons today here; Stephen Twigg (Liverpool, West Derby) (Lab/Co-op): On Friday, I visited Holly Lodge school—one of six in my constituency affected by last week’s announcement. For Liverpool, investment in our schools is crucial to our economic future. Will the Secretary of State undertake to visit Liverpool between now...
  • Debate on Building Schools for the Future in Liverpool
I was pleased to have secured a debate in Parliament yesterday on the future of BSF programme in Liverpool. In our Constituency there are several schools possibly affected including De la Salle, Holly Lodge, St Edwards, St John Bosco, Sandfield Park special school and Clifford Holroyd School. During the debate I impressed upon the minister the absolute need for these scheduled improvements to go ahead and the massive disappointment this would cause across Liverpool if the Government decide to not press ahead with improvements or rebuilds that have previously been agreed. I was delighted that there was such strong cross...
  • Armed Forces day
I was delighted and honoured to be invited by The Lord Mayor of Liverpool Cllr Hazel Williams to Armed Forced celebration day at the Anglican Cathedral. It is right that we recognise our magnificent armed forces many of which are of course from Liverpool....
